Glamping on the Beach in Northern California | @brittsbellavita Travel Blogger and Photographer
Have you ever wished to Glamp on the Northern California beaches? This Mendocino, California-based company can make you visualize all of your Glamping fantasies! Beach glamping is a unique trip for couples, friends, or even families who want to get away from it all while yet enjoying luxury facilities for a more intimate experience on the California coast.
So, my husband and I are big campers, and the idea of glamping has long been on our trip wish list. The concept of being able to enjoy nature like you would camping but still having some of the luxuries you'd find in a hotel piqued our interest. We were fortunate in that we were able to cross TWO bucket list travel experiences off our list: glamping and waking up on the beach!
The Wayward Glamping Tent
If you enjoy Boho Chic design, be warned: you may be tempted to remain and never leave this wonderful tent! Every tiny element in this tent was clearly hand picked with love and care by a gypsy soul with exquisite taste, and my instagramming radar was going crazy. The rugs, cushions, coffee mugs, and hand towels all looked and felt thoughtfully curated.
The tent's exterior was also furnished with two chairs and a rug where we could sit and enjoy our coffee in the morning and a glass of wine in the evening while watching the sunset over the ocean.
When it comes to the inside of a glamping tent, I honestly had no idea what to expect, and our expectations were far exceeded to say the least. To accommodate your camping hygiene requirements, Wayward Glamping outfitted the interior with locally created hand soaps, a mirror, a water basin, and towels.
We were pleasantly surprised by the size of the tent. It was enough room for a Queen-size bed, a toiletry station, two side tables, and even this beautiful seating area with floor pillows for playing games or simply relaxing while reading a book. We even have room in another nook for our bags! In the tent, there was also a bluetooth speaker, lighting, and ports for electronic gadgets.
You might expect a Keurig machine with Folgers-style K Cups and styrofoam to-go cups in a hotel. Our slow mornings in the glamping tent consisted of heating some water to create a delicious gourmet cup of coffee, and they even kindly included a French Press for the coffee connoisseurs.
Foggy coastal mornings are even more magical when you get to wake up on the sand in a glamping tent!
We got our drone up to take some photos of the tent, I love the way these turned out! I linked our drone photography page and travel blogging page if you want to give us a follow! @brittsbellavita
Beach Camping Location
If you look closely, you can see our humble abode, as well as the fact that there aren't many other campers on this amazing beach!
The glamping tent was set up by the amazing company Wayward Glamping at Westport Beach RV Park + Campground. Westport, California is located in Mendocino County, about 30 minutes north of Fort Bragg, California. This RV Park and Campground is open all year for beach campers, and they even have small cabins and cottages on site for families and couples.
My husband and I had never been to Mendocino before, but it was at the top of our list of local workcation destinations. We've taken many road trips as local California residents, and I'm still surprised it took us this long to visit.
Unfortunately, we went during a time when the Mendocino fires were raging, so we didn't get any sun during our stay! Despite this, we were looking forward to getting out of the sweltering Sacramento heat and enjoying the cooler coastal temperatures.
For the two days, we stayed in our Glamping tent and didn't leave the campground. It was very easy not to leave; trust me, once you hear the waves crashing and feel the sand between your toes, you won't want to go anywhere else. We truly felt like we were on our honeymoon, and this would be the PERFECT honeymoon excursion for adventurous newlyweds.
What to Bring for your Glamping Vacation
Even when we're camping, we're total coffee snobs! We may not wear designer clothes, but when it comes to beverages, we appreciate the "finer" things in life. Craft beer, fine wine, and high-quality coffee are essential! Making coffee while camping does not have to be difficult. Sure, it takes some time, but the process itself is therapeutic and very rewarding.
We brought our own basic camping kitchen equipment because, yes, you are still CAMPING! Coffee, cups, and a French press were provided, as I described earlier. We have the identical French Press at home and love it, but we brought our pour over cone because it's less dirty and we're lazy like that when it comes to cleaning lol!
You'll also need to boil hot water for your coffee, which is why we bring our Coleman Camp Stove + Percolator with us when we go camping. You can also use the percolator to brew the coffee, but we like to use the cone when we're just the two of us camping, and the percolator for big gatherings because it makes 12 cups!
We had just returned from a camping vacation the week before, so we were attempting to keep things as simple as possible when it came to meals. We made Birch Benders Paleo Pancakes with blueberries, and they were delicious!! When it comes to camping, we aren't huge on breakfast, but the chilly coastal mornings prompted us to cook pancakes. It was the ideal hot, cozy, and simple breakfast. While camping, we'll surely be making more pancakes!
The campground offered picnic tables at each beach site, which was a lovely touch! It was useful for putting together our small kitchen and eating a meal.
We have a 3 burner Coleman Propane Stove and it's been a camping essential in Brian's family for many generations! We also recently invested in some Cast Iron Skillets because we loved the idea of being able to cook over the campfire, and we currently own a 12 Inch + 8 Inch Lodge Cast Iron Skillet and we now use it camping AND at home daily. There is something about a cast iron skillet that makes you feel homey and rustic. We've made some BOMB camping meals and desserts in our stoves over the fire! Just remember to use an oven mit when touching the hot skillet handle!
This breakfast + this view = HAPPY PLACE
And NOW for my next favorite simple camping meal...TORTELLINI! I'm all about the one pot meals and this was so easy and delicious. All you need is the pasta, sauce and some cheese and VOILA!
The campground even had a little camp store with beer + wine! We decided to patronize and buy a local Mendocino wine. Our favorite thing to do when traveling is to find a local libation!
